Has everything for my needs, durable. The main feature I like for my recording needs are the direct outputs

Great little mixer. I use it on my drums to use with the hybrid kit so that I can get a better mix in my monitor system. Does everything I need with direct routes to the main system. Awesome little mixer. The only downside is I believe the RotoPod rackmount stuff should be included for the price.

Our band uses several mixers, including a full up Bose system for various sized rooms. However, in most cases we use this 1604 because of several key functions. SUPER clean Onyx pre-amplifiers and great headroom are key, but the ability to have 4 dedicated aux buses is spectacular to give three vocalist their own In Ear monitor channel dialed up with just the amount of their own voice and instrument and balanced other channels since every channel has an Aux pot for all 4 buses. You wont' find chip based on board vocal effects but then that's what Midiverbs and other delays are for! I bought the case for this and the modification for $ that allows you to move all of the 1/4 and XLR inputs to all 16 channels up onto the same plane as the top panel and sliders. The sound out of this board is spectacular and clear. Huge range of frequency control on each channel and each channel can be solo'd to see and set the level.

Sound way different than the 3 model... In some ways it sounds clearer.... But it doesn't seem to be as loud....have to do lots of tweaking.... I don't like the new slider knobs...harder to see where they are set. I'm not a big Mackie fan but it's the only mixer I can use for my application. To me they sound cold.... I had a PV I liked much better but they stopped making the unit I needed.... Mackie was the only one I could find in a similar price range....with the same head configuration feature. I've had several 3 models...they don't seem to last very long in road work. I do karaoke. So I'm constantly moving the equipment....I have road cases for transport so they don't get abused... Musical Background: 1967 Guitar, some keyboard... 23 years of karaoke 5 nights a week Musical Style: Rock

It seems to work as expected. Good eq and a million touting options. Faders are a little fancier than I'd like but they are supposedly more tactile. There is very little room to put tape for labeling channels. Overall though, seems a good solid mixer.
