I recently got some of these for my students to use either on stands for podcast recording or for field recording with cameras and phones using pro rigs. We went for these because they also work with Rode’s clever digital interface into computers and the students can then make lots of sound adjustments using the free Rode mixing software. Hence we ordered more of these than the USB mini mics.

The air cushion seals on two of the three stands are already broken within 8 months of use. While the stacking feature is nice and saves room in your stand bag, the loss of the air cushion resistance is very disappointing for the price you pay. And since I live in Canada the US Manfrotto warranty does not apply here.

I've been a fan of Manfrotto products ever since the late 1980s, when I bought my first pro tripod - a Manfrotto - in Italy. (At the time, I think Bogen was relabeling Manfrotto products for the U.S.). That tripod served me well until this past winter - 30 years of service. These stands seem to be made with the same attention to smart design, strength, and durability. They are sturdy and stable and strong, easy to set up, easy to store, easy to carry around for location work ... and air cushioned (which is a nice insurance policy). All in all, they are excellent stands. I'm very happy with them.

I have been using a regular stand that I would have to use a weight to hold down with my 72 umbrella. This stand is amazing. Very sturdy and can handle the weight. It rolls so smoothly and I dont have to pick it up. The handle helps to move the light up and down so easily. So glad I got this.

I like that this is meant to snap together with multiple stands and be good for travel, but dont plan to put on the weight. I think for most key light setups, this wont work. But for a lot of LED lights without softboxs, this is probably perfect.
