Tried the radio out on an external multi-band dipole antenna and receive was terrible on LW,SW and AM bands. FM was ok but for $200 not worth it. I also made sure that the band was up at the time and still lousy reception. Don't waste your money on this.

Being a novice looking for a good first receiver I found that this product had very little in the instructions category.

I've tried this in two different towns and the location really makes a difference for SW reception. You'll want to be outside with the clip antenna or long wire if you have a bad location indoors. However, inside the house in another town the SW reception was quite good with just the whip. FM band works well with good selectivity. AM tends to be more noisy, but picks up weak to medium strength signals. Use the tone switch and bandwidth switches on the side. One feature this has which I think is worthwhile is the AUX in which allows an old iPod or weak sound MP3 or CD player to plug in to boost the volume.

AM may need an external antenna to get better quality sound. FM sound is very good. Overall is very versatile.

I live out of town and was expecting more sensitivity than an average radio, but it just doesn't do it. SW isn't good either compared to much older radios. I'll be looking for a *real* SW radio, I suppose I need to go back to old equipment. Yes I have a long wire for SW.
