I use this lens on a Sony a7ii for standard photography and on a full-spectrum a7 for infrared. It is light and sharp, with a convenient zoom range and a good close-up capability. Distorsion correction also works fine with the default a7ii setting. For IR it's a good choice, it shows no hotspot. There is one caveat though: when used with a wide sprectrum range, for instance visible colours plus IR, 28mm corners are soft. The BW picture sample is taken with a 760nm filter, which produces good 28mm corners. A disadvantage for the a7 and other cameras lacking IBIS (not the a7ii) is that this lens has no integrated stabilization. You have to adapt your technique. Clearly I won't go back to the 28-70 kit lens.

I recently purchased this lens and have been out and about with it a few times getting to know it. I absolutely love it! Great for street photography and landscape. Mine is tack sharp, lightweight and works well with my a7III in-body stabilization. Highly recommend, especially for the money! PS I am unable to add images here because they are all over the 10mb size limit. You can see my recent postings on IG @jay_andrew_kent

Great versatile lens that's light enough to take hiking and has a great focal range of you don't want to keep changing lenses

Great all in one lens. It covers a whole lot of ranges.

Tamron’s 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is only available with the Sony FE mount so far but its combination of an affordable price, compact size, light weight and decent performance give it an advantage over its rivals. It’s one of the best convenience zoom lenses we’ve tested. While there are the inevitable compromises in lens speed, especially at longer focal lengths, the ability to shoot at f/2.8 for focal lengths between 28mm and 31mm is exceptional in a lens of this type. So is its focusing distance range, which provides good flexibility in working distances for close-ups.
