Suunto 9 Peak Pro Noir

It seems like every few days I have to restart my watch so it tracks my HR

Has all the functions I need, not bulky and was easy for me to figure out. Not good for map but I would not be able to really read that size screen map anyhow. Links easily to my Strava account.

Heart Rate Monitor issues ruin an otherwise impressive watch. The wrist based HR just did not work remotely accurately for anything other than running or walking. Any type of weight training, boot camp style training all gave very inaccurate readings. I would wear another monitor I knew to be accurate and it would show my HR in the 150-160s while the new Suunto had it at 90. Sometimes dropping into the 40s during a workout. Maybe i got a dud but this will be returned.

This probably is a good watch, but I don't know because REI cancelled my order twice without notifying me. It was to be a present, and only after the recipient let me know it hadn't arrived did I find out the orders were cancelled. The first order was cancelled supposedly because there was a problem with the address (there wasn't actually a problem). Customer service helped to recreate the order, and after waiting a couple of weeks and it not arriving, I discovered that the order was cancelled because it was out of stock. I looked on the website, and it shows it as being in stock. In neither case was I notified. I like to think of REI as being pretty together in their business practices, but this was a total failure. I ended up ordering it from that big company named after a large South American river.

Nearly a year in to ownership and my advice is to avoid this watch. Probably tonavoid Suunto watches full stop. Software updates are always full of additional bugs and the support is awful. The GPS sucks and I cant trust the step counter since its wildly different every time I walk the identical route. The heartrate functions are poor. Everything about this watch is substandard. Stick with an Apple or a Samsung. Those are tech companies. Suunto should have just kept making compasses.
