LEGO Set Lego Mindstorms (51515)

Great to use, can be programmed in woodblocks or python

Purchased for my twelve year old grandchild but she wasn't interested, returning it packets unopened. Disappointed that returning it isn't Free!

Having owned both the RCX and NXT (but not the EV3) Lego MINDSTORMS sets I decided to treat myself to the latest set. I haven’t checked back on the older sets but there seem to be significantly more parts in this set compared to the previous MINDSTORMS sets. There are definitely more builds and sub builds in the instructions so there is plenty to keep you occupied with this set. I have been using the iPad app for programming the robots and this works perfectly with the ‘block editor’ but needs a little improvement if you want to program your robot with Python. Given that the set on Amazon is about £100 cheaper than anywhere else I think this is a very good investment if you want to try some robot programming and like Lego.

I bought this for my daughter's birthday after checking that the software would install on her Chrome OS tablet. It worked really well and we had fun building and programming the first robot. We've just gone back to do some more with it but none of the projects were loading. Thought that uninstalling and reinstalling would be the first thing to try, but the play store now says the device is incompatible. It technically still works on our phones but trying to follow the instructions and code on a small screen is much worse than on the tablet. Very disappointed as functionality has been removed after we bought it.

Absolutely brilliant kit from Lego. My 9 year old daughter loves it. She does need a little bit of guidance/supervision whilst building from the instructions, but she is loving the idea of building and programming her own robot. Connecting via Bluetooth is a bit of a pain and can be hit and miss. However, you can also connect to the hub via USB (if using a laptop) and this is a reliable connection which also chargers the hub's battery.
