Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove propose une expérience complète de plateforme rétro avec quatre campagnes différentes et plusieurs personnages jouables, chacun avec son propre style de jeu. Le jeu est accessible aux nouveaux joueurs grâce aux points de contrôle et aux améliorations, mais offre aussi beaucoup de défi pour les joueurs expérimentés. Le mode coopératif et le multijoueur local ajoutent du plaisir. Certaines campagnes sont moins équilibrées ou amusantes, et l'histoire est assez simple. Perdre de l'or en mourant peut être frustrant, mais dans l'ensemble, c'est un jeu de plateforme très apprécié et polyvalent.
