I bought this thing so my kinect v2.0 would work in Windows. And it does its job perfectly.

Never close a PC up after making a modification without booting it. I managed to disconnect a case fan in the process of installation. Easily fixed.

package didn't say it needed power and it was not a low profile as expected. I am sure it will work once i can get the right bracket and power to it.

This is bottlenecked to about 100/130MB/s write/read. USB 3.0 in theory allows up to 600MB/s. In the real world most native USB 3.0 controllers i've tested can do 300MB/s or above before they start to become the bottleneck. So while this card offers performance above USB 2.0, it doesn't compare with a native USB 3.0 controller. PCI-E 2.0 allows 500MB/s per lane so I don't think the bottleneck is on the interface side of things... I believe the hardware in the card itself is simply not fast/powerful enough to handle speeds in excess of 130MB/s. That's fine for most platter-based HDDs since they don't go much above that anyway. But it cannot do justice to for example an SSD in a USB 3.0 enclosure, some of the faster thumbdrives out there (eg Sandisk Extreme), or indeed external USB RAID enclosures. When the device itself is capable of more than 130MB/s, it will be held back by this expansion card.
