I absolutely love this laptop! I mainly use it for college and it has been running great! I haven't ever had to worry about the battery power... but I have only had it for 2 months. For only $600, it's an amazing laptop!

I wanted a mid-range laptop that had some capability for playing modern games at "OK" settings. A lot of the laptops in this range had better (faster) CPUs (2nd-gen i5's), but the integrated HD 3000 graphics didn't were unimpressive. Some have add-on graphics, but that increases the cost and power consumption significantly. I'd have gone with a larger screen and higher resolution, but I didn't want / need a numeric keypad, and 5 lbs is heavy enough. After really focusing on my selection criteria, this was literally the only laptop left. I tried to shop on other sites, but without the advanced search features, it was too annoying. Right after purchase, I upgraded the RAM to 8GB, because I'm often running a Linux VM as well. It would have been nice to go to 16GB, but that isn't possible with this chipset. If Toshiba made the same form factor (14" screen) laptop with the A8 instead of the A6, I probably would have gotten that one instead.

Budget shoppers had best look elsewhere than the 14-inch Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220. A low-end processor and middling speed aren't worth the $499 asking price, and we've seen many laptops in the same range that offer more.

Its very hard to find any fault with this laptop. Yes it doesn't have all the nice fancy features of a $1000 dollar laptop, but you also don't pay for those. The ram that comes with this is perfect considering the a6-3400m memory controller only supports up to 1333 anyway. If you want higher rated memory then i suggest getting an a8. For this (or any other system) to become truly fast, buy a good SSD and don't complain about lack of hard drive space (That's what an external drive is for.) Haven't tested battery life or webcam yet but i trust that it will run for at least the 5 hours rated. While runny now in high performance mode, CPU usage rarely goes above 50%. Also, the turbocore DOES work. Don't believe me? Run windows resource monitor after startup and notice how the cpu frequency jumps to higher that 100%. That means its on, you just can't continuously monitor the speed. That's all for now. I may repost with battery life results.
