I bought it because it said 'Hoya' on it and that's supposed to be the best filter brand. This one doesn't affect the image sharpness much, but it's almost impossible to keep clean. It attracts smudges and they're very difficult to wipe clean even with good lens cloth and cleaning solution. I returned this and instead got a $7 filter that's easier to keep clean. At this price range, I'd expect all filters to perform the same, so there is no point paying a premuim because it says 'Hoya'. Because it is not a premuim quality filter that Hoya is known for.

Can not be beat for the price. You can certainly buy a nicer filter if you are willing to spend 2-3x as much but for my money, Hoya is the best value out there. I have them on every single lens I own and will continue as long as the build quality continues to meet my expectations. I do recommend this and will go a step further and say it is the best value made for filters.

It's somewhat hard to consider just how far this product category has leapt in just 10 years. It has a solid build, with a metal ring, presumably aluminium with just the slightest indentations on the top to screw in and out easier, and in the past four months of use, no visible scratches have appeared. The glass is of surprisingly high quality... You might be starting to see a pattern here. There are no major distortions, with the standard benefits of a UV filter. In closing, if you need a filter for less then 50 dollars, this is the one to get.

Good glass. The digital sensors don't need the UV protection, but this filter does provide physical protection to the lens. The trick is to use a UV filter of sufficient quality that it does not degrade the image. Hoya filters do just that. There are those who don't want anything in front of the lens, and I understand that sentiment, but a good, multi-coated filter works. I would never use a cheap piece of glass, but this Hoya is great.
