Nice unit. Easy to set up, with easy wheel sizes set up - seems to over read on my daughter's 24" wheeled bike, but you can override with a specific circumference so need to play around with it a bit.

Purchased the CAT EYE - Velo 7 for my young next-door neighbor. It replaces the broken Speedometer/Odometer that I gave to him before. I am glad that the old one broke because it was too complicated to use ... too many bells and whistles with easy access to the settings. Thankfully, the Velo 7 has the settings recessed in it's backside, and is equipped with just basic features. The user now is able to get more enjoyment out of his Speedometer/Odometer. Would have been nice to have an on/off buttoned back-light.

I’ve had several Cateye computers over the years, the Velo 7 is the first one I’ve bought in almost 20 years. Wired is the way to go as the wireless models tend to miss pulses periodically, affecting accuracy. I had a Cateye Cordless 2 that consistently missed pulses - very frustrating for accuracy. The Velo 7 is simple, small, good display, and does not have excessive features nonone cares about - like calories or carbon offset, which cannot be measured accurately anyway. Also, with a wired sensor, the sensor itself is much smaller. With a wireless model, the sensor is much larger since it needs to accommodate a separate battery. This is the one to get. I would prefer 4 significant digits for the wheel rollout rather than just 3 (about +/- 0.25% accurate), but it will do.

I use Strava to track my rides and Strava will give instantaneous speed, but won't give running tabs on any other data except time and mileage. Using Strava for instantaneous speed for a 20-40 mile bike ride will very quickly eat even a nearly new phone battery, even on short rides. I like to know what my speed is to help me train and get better on different segments/stretches and this proved to be a great solution. Inexpensive, and without the potential issues of a wireless setup (added weight, higher cost, connectivity issues). Install was easy and instructions were easy to follow. I have a road bike and handlebar real estate is limited due to much of it being wrapped and this is small enough to fit without affecting my hand positions. It's super light, easy to cycle through data while on a ride, and having ridden in the rain stands up to water well. I would absolutely recommend this to cyclists of all levels on all types of bikes, especially as an inexpensive entry level option.
