MuxLab Mxl 550/551r Microphone Rouge

This mic combo is great for beginners for a couple of reasons. One, is the clarity of the microphones. That is to say, these are quality microphones for the price, and they sound good. Two, they afford the ability to learn about mic placement, and application(i.e. where a mic sounds best depending on the source). Three, the ability to mic vocals and instruments from the get-go. There might be cheaper mics out there that offer both types of mics but not with the clarity the mics have.
