Big price, average performance

Let me first State, I purchased the Sony version of the battery grip because I expected to have the optimal performance of a Sony item. The grip is comfortable and mostly functions as it should but there is one huge problem, about 90% of the time it will not recognize my second battery. Now you might. Not think thats a big deal but when you pay almost $300 to double your battery life and it doesnt work 90% of the time. Thats shameful. Sony you need to get your stuff together and make sure your high priced accessories functions as they should.

It's essential for an a7RII

Quality is great and it fits very well. I would not go with the off brands. Vertical controls are very handy, and the increased depth aids in use of lens adjustments. Weight is not bad, but be prepared for the overall size increase of the camera and grip attachment to be substantial. However, given the known limited charge life of a single battery, I would say that this attachment is a must!! Bottom line: If you plan for any extended shooting, say 200 shots or more, it is essential.

A happy camper!

A happy camper! A year or two ago I switched from my Canon one DX which I had had for years to the Sony a7r II camera. I loved the capability of the camera, however the size of it was so annoying, it felt like a toy . Since I added the two battery grip I couldn't be more pleased. Not only with the stability of a good grip but also the fact that I have two batteries which increases my shooting time in the field.

Almost Perfect

Not much to say. I definitely like the extra hand room and it works well. I pretty much feel the grip is a necessity with the a7r ii since the battery life is so awful. What was bad design on Sony's part is the fact that you can't charge the batteries while they're in the grip. It's the 21st century and pretty much everyone has a smart phone and some kind of device with extra juice for their devices. How convenient would it have been to be able to hook up an external battery to this to keep the batteries charged up when you're out in the middle of nowhere getting those shots?!

Nice Add

Easy on and off. Well made. More comfortable grip when using large lens and shooting portrait with redundant controls. Love the attention to detail in including a built-in battery door holder so you don't loose it and can reinstall to camera body quickly when removing the grip. The only improvement would be a cover for the battery contacts when the grip is not in use.
